The king of kings and lord of lords - a devotion

“For he is Lord of lords and King of kings” (Revelation 17:14).

World history has produced many powerful kings and rulers, dictators, chancellors, presidents and many more. Some of them fill the history books, but others remain no more than a marginal note in the annals of history.

When Jesus lived here on earth, He was rejected by His own people. He was the true Messiah for His people, but as King he was rejected. Instead of a golden crown, a crown of thorns is placed on his head. The scepter, which our Lord would have deserved, was exchanged for a cane made of reeds, which the soldiers took away from him again to hit him on the head with contempt. The Savior was not given royal clothes, but instead stripped Him off and put a scarlet cloak around Him as a mockery (Mt 27: 28ff).

His rule was rejected by the people when they demanded His crucifixion:

“But they shouted: Away, away! Crucify him! Pilate said to them, Shall I crucify your king? The high priests replied: We have no king but the emperor "(Jn 19:15).

After about 2000 years, the Lord Jesus is still rejected today. He does not yet rule as King for all to see. But very soon He will take up his rulership on this earth. Then he will be the "King of kings" and "Lord of lords" (Rev 17:14; 19:16; 1 Tim. 6:15).

As "King of kings" the Lord Jesus stands above all rulers and rulers on this earth. He has the greatest dignity, He is above all "kings". He is the greatest king you can imagine. As "Lord of Lords," our Lord has the greatest and perfect authority over everything that happens. No one can resist what He does and says.

Some time after the congregation is in heaven with the Lord Jesus (at least 7 years later), there will be a powerful alliance between the ruler of the restored Roman Empire (the Beast) - the new Europe - and the false, evil, unbelieving King in Isael, to the Antichrist. They band together to fight the Lamb. Jesus, the Lamb, will then appear as "King of kings" and "Lord of lords" and destroy His enemies. Suddenly He will come from heaven and end the war in a short time.

If you believe in the Lord Jesus, you will be part of this triumphal procession of your Savior, who will then be visible to all as King. The Bible says that"with himare Called and chosen and faithful. "(Rev 17,14)

It is also interesting to see that the name "kings of kings" and "lord of lords" in 1 Timothy 6:15 is used for God who "dwells in an inaccessible light" and at the same time in Revelation for the incarnate Jesus himself It is proof that the Lord Jesus is God and man in one person.

In the future "every knee" (Phil 2,10) will bow before the Lord Jesus and give Him the honor He deserves. Give Him the honor, thanks and adoration that He deserves today ? Also in your everyday life?
