Why is binary fission so effective for bacteria?

Cell division
Asexual reproduction in unicellular organisms, in which a single cell divides to form two new cells. It's like mitosis.

Advantages of binary fission
1- Only one parent is required for reproduction.
2 Rapid Division, e.g. Escherichia coli can divide every 20 minutes.
3 daughter cells are clones of their parent cells.
4- Many daughter cells are produced in a limited time.

Binary cleavage in bacteria
When we examine the way bacteria live, it becomes clear that the binary divide is the best fit for the survival of this kingdom. The environment in which bacteria live is very harsh and there is fierce competition for survival.

There is a limited amount of food and predators lurking everywhere. So for the species to survive there should be an effective and fast way to reproduce, and for bacteria, binary fission is the answer.

Benefits of Binary Fission for Bacteria
1- No wasted time pairing as only one parent is required for binary splitting.
2-The time between two consecutive binary divisions is less than that of eukaryotes.
3 daughter cells have the same properties as their parents.
4-A single bacterium by multiple fission (many binary divisions)
can produce many new bacteria in a limited time.

A fatal disadvantage of binary fission
A fatal disadvantage of binary fission is that, in the absence of genetic recombination, the species cannot survive the changes in their environment and the entire population is wiped out.

This binary fission disadvantage works wonders for us because it stops bacterial overpopulation.
