Why should I do hotel management
Hotel management studies
The course at a glance
A hotel management degree provides the necessary specialist knowledge to be able to manage a hotel and its operational processes. The course content therefore includes subjects as diverse as human resource management, law or controlling. Interested parties can take up the hotel management degree primarily at vocational academies, private universities and technical colleges. As a rule, these are dual courses of study, but distance learning courses are also possible in some cases.
Hotel managers ensure that hotel operations run smoothly. For example, they organize room occupancy, guide employees, monitor purchasing and finances, or take on marketing. They also work with the chef to plan the menus in the hotel restaurants, monitor the quality of the service and coordinate larger events in the hotel. In addition, they sound out the market, monitor competitors and set prices for accommodation and hotel services.
Providers of continuing education
There is a wide range of options for studying hotel management. Primarily private universities and vocational academies have this subject in their program. As a rule, these are dual courses of study. Distance learning is also an option.
The dual study model combines company training in a hotel with university studies. Theoretical lessons at the university alternate with practical phases in the company. Dual Bachelor degree programs usually last 6 semesters, with distance learning programs 6 semesters full-time and 8 semesters part-time are planned. Postgraduate master’s courses also include 2 to 4 semesters. On StudyCheck.de you will find experience reports on 9 universities with a total of 10 courses.

At most universities, the technical diploma or the subject-related higher education entrance qualification is a prerequisite in order to be admitted to the hotel management course. In some cases, however, access is also possible via a successfully passed access test. As a rule, universities also require a pre-study internship in a hotel. Perfect knowledge of English and at least one other foreign language are an absolute must for hotel managers. Not only do the guests come from different parts of the world, the hotel staff is also often made up of an intercultural team.
In order to be successful as a hotel manager, interested parties should be stress-resistant and flexible. Long working hours are just as much a part of the business as dissatisfied guests or sudden problems with catering. Hotel managers have to stay calm here and be able to adapt quickly to the new situation. A certain organizational talent can be an advantage. In addition, the ability to work in a team and strong leadership are essential requirements.
